We prefer to a duvet rather than blankets, but are thinking of an electric blanket to take the initial chill off the bed. Which is the best way? Under or over blanket? Not keen on removing blanket each night as it may cause internal damage when regularly folded.

My Mum always had her electric blanket under the bottom sheet and left it there through the winter. She switched it off when she got into bed.
don't they usually go under t he bottom sheet?
Are you considering an over-blanket woofas?
Yes I should have said hers was an under-blanket, but you can also get over-blankets.
If using with a duvet, an electric underblanket would be best. These go under the bottom sheet. Most of the newer ones can be left switched on (the lowest setting) all night....although many people seem reluctant to do this, they have been designed for this purpose and are very safe.
gingejbee,I'm one of the reluctant who switch it off!I have a fitted electric blanket-doesn't take long to heat up. Think I might leave it on at some time when it's really cold.
Electric underbalnket is best and you don't have to remove it daily and folding it, if you're not using it, just leave it unplugged
Under blanket with a duvet, get one that is a fitted mattress cover as it will not ruck up and become uncomfortable. Dual controls (so you do not fall out when one is colder than the other) with an automatic switch off after a fixed time in case you fall asleep with in on a higher setting.

not all blankets should be kept on overnight, make sure yours is designed to do this. otherwise this will be dangerous
Keep your electric blanket under the sheet. I always switch on the electric blanket about half an hour before I go to bed to make your bed snug and cosy.
