Hi. Im in a top floor flat and i have a british gas meter monitor gadget but i cant use it as im too far away from the meter for it to tell me how much power im using. Is there anything i can do? Has this or similar happened to you?

I doubt that there's anything you can do in order to be able to view the data via the monitoring device you refer to. However your meter will still be sending data to British Gas, which you can then view online. See page 32:
