Penicillin On An Empty Stomach... Will It Work?
4 Answers
I started a 10 day course of penicillin yesterday, because of a bacterial infection in my throat and a very (scary) swollen gland in my neck. I haven't eaten anything since Saturday really, because it's the muscles in my throat that hurt and whenever I swallow anything, even air, they really hurt. So of course the penicillin has made me feel nauseous and this morning came the diarrhoea. Should I keep taking it or is there something else out there more suitable? My doctor's not at work today and I don't want to bother one of the others unless it's worthwhile. What do you think?

Could maybe try a yoghurt or something, I found that helped me whenever had sore throats and antibiotics, well that and ice cream.
Hope this helps and I do hope that you feel better soon

Thank you Queenie, and for reminding me of that "the trots".. haha I'm hoping that the penicillin will start to work and my throat muscles will stop hurting so much - then I'm going to eat the cupboards bare! At the minute, water, yoghurt and ice cream all hurt, so does toast dunked in warm coffee, and soup. I've given up on them all after a few spoonfuls. Roll on tomorrow xx
