If you get a message from someone who is not one of your Facebook friends (which means that the message goes into the `others` folder rather than Inbox) do you get a notification?

I don't think so... I think you have to go into your messages + check the Others folder.

no,i dont, have some messages that were in others for ages before i realised they were there.
