Please God, can someone help with my daughters homework.

The HCF of 2 numbers is 6. The LCM of the same two numbers is 72.
What are the numbers?

I'm twisted and my head hurts.

Please help :)

I'm not sure of teh point you are trying to make, divebuddy, The LCM 9of Lowest Common Multiple of 4 and 8 is definitely 8, not 16

The multiples of 4 are: 4, 8, 12, 16, 20 24, 28, 32,...
The multiples of 8 are{ 8, 16, 24, 32...
So the Lowest Common Multiple of 4 and 8 is 8
Just to clarify, divebuddy, I was referring to your post from the previous page when you said:

"FF, OK 24 and then 32.

I was only quoting you saying (for your example of 4 and 8) that it was not 32. leaving aside that it will always be the largest number (and I sort of feel that is wrong anyway in principle) it would be 16 not 32.

I'll be surprised if some maths ace doesn't say that the LCM can't be the larger number."

Okay thanks, divebuddy. Maybe I didn't make it clear enough that the reason I chose 32 as being the wrong answer for the LCM of 4 and 8 is that the post just before mine had suggested you get the LCM simply by multiplying the two numbers together (4 x 8 =32).

Thud. Where did I say that? Jackdaw said it and I said no that's wrong
You said I said "FF you said...//you get the LCM simply by multiplying the two numbers together (4 x 8 =32"

What I said was "the post just before mine had suggested you get the LCM simply by multiplying the two numbers together (4 x 8 =32)."

I have heard of quoting out of context but that's a bit extreme
You will all be in detention for being disruptive in class if you're not careful. Haha bet rocky daughter is having a real laugh if he shares it with her.

>FF, I'm not trying to stitch you up. But let's face it, neither you nor I could claim to be experts on this, could we ?

I half agree with you for once, divebuddy

You have to laugh or else you'll cry ;-)

For the sake of those who are interested, there is no such thing as a highest common multiple of two positive integers for example there's 40 trillion for a start.

As for ' lighten up a bit' yes we should, divebuddy, but if someone says you had said something when you clearly said the opposite then I would understand it if you wanted to point out the error.
This could be made into a feature film like The Life of Pi.
Nooooooo

divebuddy FF is a fully fledged maths teacher, he made just one misread on the first page. And as for Jim, that's not what I call an explanation when it goes over most people's heads.
