If you're seeing that your computer is connected to your router, but not to the internet, then it's almost certainly a TCP/IP stack problem which, as TheChair's link shows, is a doddle to fix.

PS: Once you've done it, give yourself a big pat on the back because you've just saved yourself the FIFTY QUID(!) that PC World would have charged you for doing the same thing ;-)
