Have You Ever Dialed 999 , If So Why?
74 Answers
I was watching the TV show ''999 what's your emergency'' and was astounded at some of the reasons people dialed 999. One man called because he was living in a Salvation Army hostel and he said '' they keep coming into my room and playing loud music'' I laughed at that one, visions of the Salvation Army brass band playing in his bedroom.
I have dialed 999 4 times, once for a fire, twice for a robbery and once for a car crash.
How about the rest of you?

They'd come off the motorway and our was the first house lights they'd seen. We called 999 and asked for an ambulance. In the meantime the ambulance dispatcher talked us through what to do before the ambulance arrived. All was well and the following day a bunch of flowers was delivered to us.
Twice. First time a hire car burst into flames outside our house while parked up.
Second, a fire broke out in the roof space of our house when my son and I who was 3 at the time, were in the house. I rang 999 and then rang my friend to tell her to let my husband know as he and her husband were at the golf club before coming here for dinner.
My husband was told that I wanted him home and not about the fire as my friend ‘s husband didn’t want to scare him and have him drive like mad to get home. As they came down the hill to our house and saw the fire and the fire engines, the friend said, “it’s a bit more urgent than I made out”. Lol.

My 'fire' call turned out to be a false alarm. I saw smoke coming out of the upstairs window of a house. The fire brigade turned up and found the house owner had got a bit too enthusiastic with one of those hot air paint strippers and the paint started to smoke. The firemen thanked me for calling 999 and said I was correct to do it,they said they would rather have a false alarm than a non reported fire.
First time ever to report two men, in the early hours, wandering around my garden with torches...turned out the two men were police officers...still don't know why.
Second time...again middle of the night... to report some lads behaving strangely in the street....I suppose that did seem trivial to the person I was speaking to as all I could say was they were bending over the drains....
I was still being told this wasn't an emergency when the explosions happened...the lads had poured petrol into the drains then dropped a match in.....the drain covers went through roofs, windows and cars.....
I did phone once in the day when I saw a neighbour's house being broken into....about 1990.....police still to arrive....
Oh and once about the people I saw trying a neighbour's car during the night....the police didn't have a car to send till I told them two of the people were now having sex on the bonnet........lots of cars came then..... :-)

I've always rescued my own cats, Minty!
I called the ambulance for my ex mil and then travelled with her in the back. Unfortunately, she never came home.
Had to call the fire brigade a few times when living at home because corn fields going up in smoke happened from time to time.
It's probably quicker to send a carrier pigeon where I live. My next door neighbour was burgled two weeks ago and the police still havent been - despite crystal clear CCTV images of the perps. Although they were very good when someone tried to break in here.
