It's dipped lower than normal causing this rain and in many cases flooding, we've got the Athletics on from Poland and it looks lovely and warm there, so are they unaffected by this 'ere Gulf Stream ?

It influences the weather on the east coast of the USA and the west coast of Europe. Poland is quite a way from the west coast of Europe. Are you getting confused with the Jet Stream(s)?

Ah!
The Jet Streams (there's more than one) slither about all the time. The last time I flew to the Caribbean our route took us over Newfoundland and down the east coast of the USA because it avoided the polar jet stream and was quicker (although further) than heading directly across the Atlantic. The polar Jet Stream has an influence on UK and western Europe weather and it effects where in Europe Atlantic weather systems make landfall.
