Why Do People Over 5 Ride Their Bikes On The Pavement?
137 Answers
Err indoors got a load of trap from 3 teenage *** riding on the pavement whilst she was walking the dogs. "Get out of the effing way etc" - wish I was there I'd kicked the rissoles clean off their bikes. Makes my blood boil.

Sorry Khandro at 11:01 that is a silly post - they shouldn't even be on the pavement in the first place ! I've just got back in for a dog walk and twice we had to avoid lycra clad and helmeted morons speeding along the pavement as if they had the divine right ! I was absolutely chuffed to bits when an irate Dad with his little boy in tow told them off as they sped past !...

piggynose - firstly how do I get to the park without walking on the pavements ?? Secondly it may be dangerous on the roads for cyclists, but it is also downright dangerous on the pavements because of cyclists speeding past, and it is STILL ILLEGAL, but just not policed. Should I maybe get a helicopter and fly my dog to the park ??? Sorry, you're an idiot.
burlyshirley// if you think I am going to 'train my dog' to walk along the edge of the pavement, you must be mad ! Me and my dog are where we should be, the cyclists are not ...
You don't drive in the middle of the road (I hope) so why do you insist on walking in the middle of the path? Are you a 'path-hog'?
It takes very little effort to train a dog to keep to the right (here). What's the problem?

exactly OG, cycle lanes are in prime location across the capital, and more being built every day causing major disruption for car road users. Not least emergency services. What they have done to London is criminal and should be stopped forthwith. But Khan is adamant that more cycle lanes will be built. if only the idiot cyclist would use them and not the pavement.
Khandro - one last time ! I will walk wherever I want to walk on the pavement with or without my dog, that is my prerogative as a pedestrian, and unlike cyclists, I don't threaten other people or yell at them to get out of the 'bleep bleep' way. Pedestrians (both with kids or dogs) walk anywhere along the pavements because they are allowed to ! Cyclists are NOT, even though they do so because they are a nuisance and a law unto themselves (as the majority of posts on here contest to). I have no need whatsoever to 'train' my dog to walk at the side of the pavement, she is on her lead and a good, well behaved little dog to boot. She causes no problems whatsoever, unlike the lycra clad louts streaming along without a care in the world and expecting everybody to get out of their way ! Now if you are unable (or don't want) to process this, fair enough. I've had my say, am extremely happy with it and am now moving on. Cheerio !
khandro: "burlyshirley: I have trained my dog to walk along the edge of the paths as do I, - usually behind, so we leave room for cyclists & there is never a problem. " - what a ridiculous suggestion, why should we make room for lawbreakers? I deliberately get in their way, especially the ones that ring a bell to let me know they are coming! very helpful!
I guess this is why kids ride on the pavement

I do not condone them doing it but I would rather my grandchildren do so rather than ride on a road

I do wonder where some people live and their surroundings
I see teenagers riding on pavements and down one way streets
None of them have a helmet on or lights
They are generally doing wheelies
The only riders wearing lycra and helmets around here most definitely do not ride on pavements
I also see a lot of pedestrians getting irked when a cyclist goes past them without realising that they (pedestrian) are themselves walking on a shared cycle lane and pavement and are usually walking in the red/pink but that is for cyclists !
Lost count of the pedestrians that have nearly ended up on my bonnet because they have got their AirPods in which instantly and mistakenly makes them car proof ! Lol

//it's about the very real nuisance of cyclists riding on pavements as if they have the divine right -//
This world would be a better place if more people tried (just tried) to look at things from the perspective of other people:
Perhaps the person on the bike isn't thinking, as you assert; "Get out of my way!" they might be wishing to indicate, as I do in these circumstances, "Hello! I'm approaching you from behind & I'm letting you know I'm coming, I don't want to startle you, & I will ride past you as far as I can away from you as your position on the path allows".
