Laptop Speaker Volume Doing Its Own Thing
1 Answers
on my laptop (Dell precision M6800, win10)
when im playing a video, & i set the volume i want, if i pause it, or flip it back a bit, or the next video starts to play, the volume goes loud & i have to adjust it again - but the slider doesnt seem to correlate with the volume, because when i lower it, it goes really quiet immediately - like as soon as i move the slider it reverts to the original sound level.
i may have altered something but i dont remember what.
its just the standard sound that came with it, realtek i think
Any ideas why & how i can reset it? its getting on my nerves now.
Thanks :)

If the problem then disappears, go back to your original browser and clear its cache. If that doesn't fix the problem, reset the browser to its 'out of the box' settings. (If you need instructions, please tell us which web browser you're using).
If the problem is present beyond only when playing streamed videos (such as when playing downloaded videos with VLC), start here:

In particular, try running the Audio Troubleshooter (Section 2 in the link).
If that doesn't work, try updating the audio driver. (That the first bit in Section 6). However it's likely that you'll be told that you're already using the latest driver. If so . . .
Remove the audio driver and then restart the laptop. The driver will be reinstalled automatically. (That's the next bit of Section 6).
