I need to top up my smart meter - if I do it tonight will I be paying more for my electric than if I leave it till tomorrow? Getting low but got emergency credit to use and anyway they don't cut you off overnight.
Your electricity is charged at the prevailing rate, irrespective of the amount of credit available.
So, whether you're really low on credit or (having just had a big lottery win) you top it up with £1000 of credit, units you use for the rest of today will be charged at the 'old' rate and units you use from tomorrow onwards will be charged at the 'new' rate.
Thanks that is what I thought but didn't want to lose out by buying it at the dearer rate when a couple of hours might have made all the difference! Bit like filling your vehicle up when fuel is going up in the budget.
