I wouldn't chance it. If it's the only ID you've got you've probably got time to apply for a postal vote.

If you look at the gov.uk website it just says a UK Passport rather than a 'valid UK Passport'  so you could argue the point.  However, they will accept a photocard driving licence or bus pass if you have and old paper driving licence (like me).  Everyone will have something different so check the list of acceptable forms of ID before you head out.

The Electoral Commission states,

"Out of date photo ID

You can still use your photo ID if it's out of date, as long as it looks like you.

The name on your ID should be the same name you used to register to vote."

If folk have no acceptable photo ID and don't want to apply for a voter ID certificate, they have until 5pm on 19th June to apply for a postal vote.

Action taken to deter voter fraud by folk who turn up to vote (an area not known to be a particular issue) but it encourages more citizens to apply for a postal vote (an area which is frequently questioned as a possible fraud area). Yes, that irony sounds like an expected government decision.
