despite googling i cannot find any info on R W Roma watches at all (my father owned one and they are reputadely expensive)- anybody with any info on this manufacturer?

I think you may have spelt the name wrong. It should read Roamer. These were a mid range make of watch, using mainly a 21 jewel swiss movement. If your father's one was expensive, it may have been in a 9ct gold case.
