Firstly power comes in from source i.e main's or battery
Then it goes through the trigger switch on the handle
Following that it then travels to the motor bush's which then turn the arbour by the forces of magnetics that the electricity produce i.e EMF field, So the most basic drill will have two bush's in the motor ( + and - ) more powerful drills can have up to 8 bush's ( 4 sets of poles)
The more bush's to flow electricity the more powerful and toque the drill will produce, |Also if it is battary the more voltage there will help. i.e. 9volt battary is good for the basic of jobs i.e. small holes and 32volt battery drills will pritty much get through anything,
With mains drills the wattage is the same as the voltage, i.e. 50watt is on the small side not capable of doing much, but a 1500watt will destroy anything in it's path
