hi there, has anyone had scalewatcher put into their home? I don't really want a water softener because of the salt content and the fact you cannot drink the water.

Oh great, truly? no difference? we live in a very hard water area, previously living in a 'hardish' water area where we just had a normal water softener on the upriser. Got it from plumbase...

I have got a water softener but they just leave the kitchen tap untouched so you can drink it ...

the scalewatcher works by transforming temporary hardness into permanent hardness. This stops it precipitating onto pipes and taps or in the kettle but means that you still get a scummy bath and the water "feels" hard.

As lady_p_gold says, the kitchen tap is left untouched, but actually the water doesn't taste salty. The water does have sodium in it so is not recommended for childen, the elderly or those at risk of heart disease, but you can certainly use it to clean your teeth in!

I am now addicted to my osmosis softener (second only to the dishwasher) and wouldn't be without one again.

If you do get a softener and have an outside tap, do try to get the outside tap not connected to the softener. as it does cost money (not a lot) to soften water and you wouldn't want to waste it in the garden!
