What is the tax situation for a Syndicate?
Prior to playing The National Lottery as a syndicate, it is advisable to have a signed agreement drawn up between all syndicate members, which has been witnessed by an independent person of reputable standing, such as a solicitor or doctor. If there is no agreement and the winner of a prize transfers part of it to others, these gifts may attract Inheritance Tax. If you have a written agreement and can prove this to the satisfaction of the Inland Revenue, then no liability for Inheritance Tax should arise. (It is important to note that Inland Revenue law and practice may change: the comments on Inheritance Tax are based on our understanding of Inland Revenue practice as of October 1999.)
How do I get a National Lottery Syndicate pack?
Syndicate packs can be obtained from the National Lottery Line on 0845 9 100 000. Calls are normally charged at local rates in the UK; mobile phone charges may differ.
Do I have to register my Syndicate?
There is no need to register a syndicate, although you may wish to keep your written agreement in a safe place, just in case it is required in the future by the Inland Revenue
How do I solve a syndicate dispute?
The syndicate members must resolve any dispute between themselves. Camelot cannot disclose any information concerning any winners, or become involved in any syndicate dispute.
