connecting dvd recorder

I have just purchase a Lite-On 5006 DVD Recorder. I have a Telewest Cable box and a sony TV. I do not have an outdoor Aerial as I run all the programmes through the cable box. I have two SCART cables and two Antenna Leads. I have connected the units together and find that I am recording Black and White pictures with distortion, what am I doing wrong and how do I correct the problem ?

-connect cable box scart cable to dvd av input.

(if recorded pictures are b/w check in cable box settings or output menu that output is cvbs or composite not rgb).

-connect dvd recorder to tv with other scart lead. view on ext / Av/ 0 (box with arrow pointing into it)or whatever the tv uses to see the scart input

-connect aerial cable to cable box rf out and tv aerial in.
