what are the best dimensions for oars ?

I wish to make a pair (possiblt two) of oars to row an inflatable boat that will take four people. what dimensions should I use ?

The length depends on the angle of the oars when sitting in the rowing position. You can use a lengths of narrow timber to gauge this. Too short and the ends will be too high to reach the water, too long and they become unwieldy, dig too deep and tend to cross over. For an inflatable they don't need to be enormous thickness but they must fit the rowlocks and have big enough hand grips.

realy I was thinking of the size of the actual paddle. I have the poles they fit the racks and should be about the right lengh if too long I'll just cut them short
18 x 6 inches should be ample.
