I want to buy a DVD but its only available on a region 1 format. how do i check if i can watch it on my dvd player or computer?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.alot of DVD players have a 'region hack' with the remote control, do a search on your DVD players model number with the word 'region' at the end and the info needed should be easy to find.
The porblem is that R1 DVD's are NTSC not Pal, so if you play them on old TV's it may come out in black and white. If your TV is less than 5 years old you might be alright, if not check to see if you have a scart socket on the back of your TV that is Blue or Red (meaning you can use it for a non-Pal signal). if so you should be able to watch the movie in all its glory,

You really need a multi region DVD palyer, now that the UK has woken up to the fact that they are not the only country in the world, multi region DVD players are becoming cheaper. There is an on-line shop called, Shop at hIlls, which you may be able to find one. I have three, one in each bedrooms and one in the front room and they are well worht it. If you try and 'Chip' your original DVD player then certain region 1 DVD won't play on them, such as Warner Bros and a few of the other big names, due to the encription.
