How do gas holders work? I presume the weight of the holder creates pressure to distribute the gas across the network, so presumably it is pumped in under pressure? How are they made airtight?

Usually, with a multi-cylinder gasometer, the lower sections are double-walled, with the space between the walls filled with water. The bottom edges of the next higher cylinder sit in this water, which acts as the seal . .
