The in 32 you get by holding down the Alt key and typing 167 on the numeric keypad to the right of your keyboard. The in H0 uses the numbers 253. Click here for a web-page with all such ASCII codes.

(Looking at the above, I can't help thinking the little '2' should be lower down, but I'm no scientist.)

Excellent page Quizmonster, I've saved a copy, another way in MS Word is to use subscript or superscript ,

From MS Help,

Make text superscript or subscript
1. Select the text you want to format as superscript or subscript.
2. On the Format menu, click Font, and then click the Font tab.
3. Select the Superscript or Subscript check box.

This will then put the selected text higher or lower and in a smaller font.

You could assign shortcut keys for the symbols if you're using them a lot.

Click on Insert, then from drop down menu choose symbol. Highlight which one you want and click on shortcut key. There you can select CTRL + 1 (for example) and click on assign. It's saved then for future use. Hope that's helpful.

is the depiction for squared, the 2 in H2O needs to be subscript to denote 2 hydrogen atoms in the molecule. There isn't an ASCII shortcut fot this, so you'd have to use John's method to do it. It's a pain in the arse if you're writing any scientific papers!! It took me an age to write my dissertation.

In Windows XP you can access the full range of UNICODE characters using the Character Map application found in
