Hi eveheron,

The trigger has a plunger incorperated in it which sits inside a cylinder. when the trigger is depresed an inlet valve closes and an outlet valve opens which then means any water in the cylinder is pushed out via a tube connected to the outlet hole. When the trigger is released the inlet valve opens and the outlet valve closes so water is drawn up via another tube from the reservoir and no air is drawn in via the output tube.

just to make a really stupid, pathetic, silly, obvious comment, you cant compress fluid. you can compress air, and also gas, but you certainly cannot compress water. sorry lotuseater, i dont mean to be fickle.

My apologies - I was attempting to explain in simple terms how the water was 'squeezed' by the piston. It's a while since I last used a water pistol (!)
