Oily air filter

I have alot of oil in my air filter on my 1990 fiesta,any ideas Thanks.

You have an oil leak, or your car needs a service - perhaps both. have a word with your local friendly garage.

On an old engine pressure can seep past the pistons as the rings are worn. This creates a fine mist of oil that passes back up the breather tubes and into the air filter. You could try a heavier oil such as a 20/50 Duckhams grade or check the PCV valve if it has one

I agree with Harley check the breather tube out of the top of the rocker cover and also look underneath the filler cap for any white 'gunk' which can be a bad sign . I did read in one paper recently that the basic Fiesta and Ka engine dated back to the Ford Anglia of the early sixties so it can't be too bad an engine

As an added note if you do find the white gunk it's made up of oil and water and will indicate that your head gasket has a slight leak, for a car of that age I would leave it alone it's not worth fixing

If all the breather pipes are clear, its usually just a sign of a tired engine. Has it done a zillion miles?

Yep about 110 000. Ive put a thicker oil in which has helped but the oil filler cap keeps popping off so it must be building up pressure i'll have alook at the breathers and maybe flush the engine a couple of times.
