I had an identical problem on a Fiesta and it was the selector (where you switch the lights on) which needed replacing, so i advise checking there - they aren't rocket science to remove and check yourself but you'll need to invest in a Haines manual
or could be a bad earth? or any multitude of sins. car electrics are notoriously tricky your best bet is to have a car electrics specialist have a look at it that way you know the job will be done right...don't just go to a garage as half the time they only ship it to a specialist and then charge you for the privilage.
