Mystery 1,000
4 Answers
Hi, My Mother In Law has had 1000 credited to her current account, she has phoned her bank (abbey) and they would only tell her that it had come from an account with the same surname (ex-husbands name not family name). Could it be a mistake, and could the bank ask for the money back, and is there any way you could trace the money to find out where it comes from? If anyone has had experience with this, or works in a bank advice ideas would be apprieciated. Thanks all

Even if it takes them a year to sort it out, they would still have the legal and moral right to demand the money back. Even more so because she realises it is a mistake. I would bung it in a high interest account, and give it back when they ask for it. It could just be someone has put the wrong account number in. They will be able to trace the moneywhen the person realises there is not 1000 pounds in their bank account that there should be!
