Playground Games
28 Answers
Bit of a feel good question, taking us back to our youth.
Talking in the office this morning I was shocked to find out one of my colleagues didn't play Kiss Chase at primary school!! I had assumed this was part of everyones childhood.
This evolved into an open forum of our whole team discussing playground games, Kiss, Cudle or Torture, 40/40, British Bulldog, What's the time Mr Wolf, Stuck in the Mud. We were all at primary school in the 80's.
What games do you remember fondly?

If I remember rightly I broke my leg playing that game.... skidding across the playground (in the 80's) so that I could bounce on peoples arms to get through.
There was also a very odd game (where I also broke my leg) on the playground was like a dart board effect and we would have to jump as far as possible - the further you jumped the more you scored. I scored the embarrassment of being carried in to the school by the teacher!

Red Rover was great, banned at our school though too.
It went "Red Rover, Red Rover, we call *Fred Bloggs* over" and then aforementioned person would have to try and break through the human made barrier on the opposing team. If he managed it, he got to go back to his own team, if not he had to join the opposing team.
We also played "Sticky Toffee" which went "I went to the shop and bought some sticky sticky sticky....jam/frogs/toffee." Only when toffee was said was everyone permitted to run off screaming and hoping not to get caught.

You had a line of kids of one side, then one kid on the other with their back turned, the group would sing "Please Mrs Crocodile may we cross the wastar to see your ugly daughter dressed in....." and the 'crocodile' (kid on their own) would pick a colour and if you had that colour on your clothes you could take a step forward, the first to get to the other side was a winner. Looking back it was pretty cr@p.
how about "two balls" and that's what we called it!
where the girls in the main, would fetch two tennis balls into school and play them against the wall.
to the infamous songs of...
"mathew, mark , luke and john,.. next door neighbour pass it on," then one girl would take over the balls and play them against the wall. and then continue... this sounds a bit naff now when you try and explain it, but it was good at the time... from what i can remember!
so many other songs that you could play "two balls" with, but my mind has gone blank.....
anyone else do this at school????

and a game we played called "in and out the dusty windows" which had a very annoying song that went with it.... all stood in a circle , joined hands above your heads and one child i think went inbetween the arms of the others in the circle.. not really sure what the point of the game was in the end!!!!
and another i just thought of. with a song that went a bit like "who goes there punchanella little fella, who goes there punchanella little man/one" cant even remember the point of this one, but again it was all in a circle and singing and there would be one person in the centre,... doing what?, i cant remember!!!!!
