You cannot finalize RW discs in any case, only R discs.

RW should play on any player.

thanks ethel,
what happened was i recorded a program on a rw disc
on my pabasonic recorder. the following night i took the disc into my bedroom to watch it on my liteon recorder, when i tried to play it
a message came on the tv screen sating change disc.
Mike - have you tried playing the disc on any other dvd player?

Perhaps the one in your pc? Sometimes discs are faulty and don't record properly.

hi ethel,
i have tried with two different discs.
mike still no joy, still get message saying change disc,
also a small padlock in the corner of message.
thanks mike.
You can finalize a RW disc just the same as a R but in order to re-use it you will need to re-format the disc.

The best solution I can come up with without reading both instruction manuals (which I'm sure you have done) is this. Format the RW disc in the mode that the recorder says is compatible with most other payers, sometimes called Video Mode. Once the disc is formatted in this mode record program as normal and then finalize the disc. It should then work in your other player. To re-use the disc just reformat it.

R's are more likely to work than RW's
