Will it be possible to convert the 'old' style Televisions to Digital, when we all have to 'go digital' or does everyone have to buy a new digital TV set?

Plugging a Freeview box in the back allows an analogue TV to show digital so that is always going to be an option.
Over time people will buy digital TVs and they will replace analogue TVs the same way people are buying DVD players and replacing their VHS tapes and players.

Also I am currently watching digital Sky on an analogue TV so it is not as though your "old" TV becomes worthless overnight.
Basically if you have a freeview box, or a digital Sky box (which most Sky boxes are nowadays) or a digital NTL/Telewest box (which most cable boxes are now) then you are already watching digital.
And many people are watching digital on "old" televisions and can continue to do so for years to come (even when analogue is switched off)
