why are mushrooms not green

As mushrooms take their nutrients from the earth (or rotting vegitation), they have no need for chlorophyll to synthesise sunlight into energy. It is the chlorophyll which gives plants their green colour
Why do you expect them to be green? They are not plants.
why are sprouts not white
why would sprouts be white? they may be the spawn of satan, but they, and their leaves, still need sunlight to grow.
