False Parking Tickets and Clamps
I am interested to know as a 4x4 driver is the placing of false parking tickets or false clamps as shown on these websites something that 4x4 drivers have just got to put up with or are those applying these things breaking any laws?

Has anyone got legal advise or a course of action we can take or do we just have to accept this behaviour?
I would also suggest all 4x4 owners get some of the free high quality tickets available from the second site and then burn or shred them to try to bankrupt stopurban4x4

I think it could be seen as breaching the peace what they do, much similar to standing outside your local phones 4 U telling everyone that they're cr@p. You would get moved on if the police saw you doing it. Why can't I physically stop one of these protestors from touching my vehicle - they have no right to.
Or you could just get a normal car!
I'm tired of seeing some tiny women (sometimes tiny men)driving a huge 4x4, barely able to see over the dashboard - taking children to school! There's no need!
Petrol aside, you take up too much parking room and from my experience - have no sense of where she sides of your vehicle are!
Rant, rant, rant.

I drive a 4x4.
I park over the other side of the car park and my car fits in a normal parking space. I'm 5ft 6inch small but capable of adjusting the seat to see the road clearly.
I dont want a mini as they are too small for my family and my Dog, if I have a very minor accident side on with Billy Boy Racer, in a mini, my kids would be squished. In my car they would be a good deal safer. I don't want a Mondeo as they do not do a four wheel drive version. In fact I dont think Citroen or Peugot do. Vauxhall don't do a 4x4 and I think I'm proving a point here. I don't want a van be it in the disguise of a Grand Voyager/Zafira or Picasso. I dont want a vauxhall as they don't do a 4x4 either.
Why do I want 4x4 and I don't live on a farm or up ben Nevis? Well there are some 4x4's out there that were not designed for going off road and the owners are under no illusions about this. You don't buy an Audi A6 Quattro to go off road. I bought a 4x4 because I want the safety it offers in the wet, ice and snow and general driving capability. want a spacious car with a good, safe, driving position which my children can be safe in, whether I am taking them to school or not.
Do we have a go at the Sports car driver who takes his kid to school getting less MPG than me and say why isn't he on the race track. Or why hasn't that bloke with an estate car got two labradors in the back.
4x4's have moved on from them all being off roaders such as sporty cars have moved on from being race cars - nearly all manufacturers do a sports version of their model.
Move with the times and STOP STEROTYPING PEOPLE WITH CARS IT'S WRONG !!!

a mpv would be more capable of carrying disabled people and chairs as the amont of space inside four by fours is a lot less! than a people carrier as most of the size in a 4x4 is in the ridiculous sized body panels!
i think the reason most people get on their high horses about 4x4's is because of the attitude of their drivers while they are driving them, because they think they are so safe in them they bully people out of the way on the roads, cause a lot of congestion as most of the drivers cant judge the size of the car in gaps unless some other driver backs down to them giving them a massive gap.
oh just one other thing i drive lorries and some of the new uber 4x4's are wider than my lorry and i had too take a hgv test to drive that so i just wonder how popular 4x4's would be if a similar additional test of equal strictness was introduced!

Well All claret - you don't need an HGV to drive a 7.5tonne truck and and my 4x4 is def smaller than one of those and narrower. Lets all put white van man in the category aswell so if it was up to allclaret anyone driving anything bigger than a Mondeo would need an HGV license?
As with knowing the size of your vehicle - I've seen people driving puntos who don't know the width of their car's so I think it's absolute
Bo((@cks
Quite frankly it stinks of reverse snobbery.

alcdm007 please read my statement again i have nowhere said tests should be taken i said i wonder how popular 4x4 would be if an additional test of equal strictness were introduced .
not all 4x4 are wider than my lorry but some of the uber 4x4 are, hummer the biggest mitsubishi crew cab monster and some others.
caz my statements are fact i spend a hell of a long time on our roads as you would imagine and i experience the driving i described by the 4x4 driver more than any other category you can mention.
i dont care what people drive so reverse snobbery does not come into it i personally would prefer too be on my bike if the truth be known, cars dont interest me at all so i am not jealous of what vehicle people own i am merely voicing my views from years of motoring experience, and white van men while there are some lunatics out there in white vans they tend too be builders and other tradesmen who dont particularly spend a lot of time behind the wheel they use them as a means of transporting tools and materials to and from jobs in much the same way as many 4x4 drivers only use them for the school run and asda, a professional white van man will spend most of his time driving his vehicle and as such will tend too be more aware of its dimensions , you all say we are categorising you but you do the same too others.
if you were not trying so hard too justify what you drive and the reasons for driving them you may be able to accept both points of view.
by the way i live facing a local school and the problems caused by all vehicles are bad but the wider vehicles do cause immense bottleneck problems.

Sorry I must have read it completely wrong !! Why would you need an additional test to drive a 4x4 what about a Freelander ? Or a RAV4 - no longer or wider than a Large Merc/BMW/ People carrier. 4x4 is purely a drive not a category of car. If not what about the 4x4 panda Sisley - is it or should it be clased as the same vehicle as a Hummer - I don't think so.
What's happening here is you are categorizing and summising and making sweeping statements about people who drive "4x4's" - much the same as people assume and speculate about race & culture. All I am saying is dont judge a driver by the car they drive.

Hello.......... Never mind about size, be it a car or 4x4, it's the carbon emission level you should be concerned about. Fact is, most 4x4's have a higher emission factor than cars hence the reason Gordon Brown is thinking of imposing a heavier road tax on them as there is more pollution to the enviroment. Yes, your children can theoretically travel more safely to school and then suffer from poisoning the moment they step outside that 4x4!!
please read my statement again i did not say i think a test should be in force for 4x4's i said and i will put it in big letters this time" I WONDER HOW POPULAR 4X4 WOULD BE IF AN ADDITIONAL TEST OF EQUAL STRICTNESS WAS INTRODUCED"
as for categorising well if stating facts i have amassed in my fifty hours a week driving wagons plus ten hours driving my car and most free days i ride my bike for about five hours then yes in my average 65 hours weekly on our roads i may categorise a bit but lets face it i might just be stating FACT!!!!
also the point i was stating was some of the new uber 4x4 so dont try to make out that i am classing all 4x4 vehicles as the same, yes i know 4x4 is a means of propulsion so there in lies the only categorization i have made but i was only using the same categorization as the people who started the topic so if even the pro staunch "4x4" fan is happy to categorise their vehicles as a 4x4 then who am i to argue! (language is a weapon in the right hands, but it is advised that you read the instructions first)
