tv keeps going on standby

i have a matsui tv that started going onto standby for no apparent reason, just rolls up the screen and goes onto standby.
any theories how to fix it or is it time to buy a new one?

If its not that then unless you can get hold of and can read a circuit diagram you are stuffed. A lot of components you cant change these days- have to be whole circuit boards and to be honest- with the price of bog standard tellys its just as cheap to buy one as to get someone in to fix it.
May be a good excuse to but one thats digital capable.

if trying the remote trick duggested by others has no effect, it's most likely a dry solder joint , or a component which has become thermo sensitive (i.e. its value drifts with warmup), or an capacitor which has gone out of spec. All common in TVs.
Unless you are technical, and can use a soldering iron, don't go poking around, as there are lethal votages inside wich are present even if the set is unplugged for a long time. Take it to a tech for a proper diagnosis. If the set is less than about 10 years old and is otherwise in good shape, it's probably worth fixing and keeping out the landfill.
