There are no religious things anyway, as it is a civil ceremony. In fact I don't think you are allowed to have anything religious in it. As I recall it takes less than half an hour.
Well our register office wedding was all over in half an hour!
We would have loved a ceremony in a Church, but it didn't work out that way! However, we've just celebrated 39 years of marriage, so the register office wedding & the fish & chip supper afterwards, must have done the job! We know many people who have had 'big' weddings in church, but sadly are no longer together!
Yes you are allowed no religious things but you can have readings. Last wedding I went to they did the civil bit and then a buddhist ceremoney - the civil was done in under 15 mins!
Welcome back Smudge! Surely you couldn't have been banned? You must have been on holiday? Congratulations on the 39 years. Ooops, chatting, better go before I get the axe....!
Honestly, my Mother just got married in August and we were only in the reg. office for 10 mins... But then it was one of the hottest days of the year...
smorodina is quite right, but nowadays a civil wedding can take place almost anywhere if it has a licence. In a Registrars office no religious ceremony is allowed.
