How do those two-way mirrors work? You know, the sort they use for observing people secretly, with a mirror on one side, but transparent on the other? Thanks!

They use half-silvered glass which has the effect that it reflects strong light sources on one side if the other side is darkened. So the observers are in the darkened room and the observed in a brightly lit one.
