broadband connection HELP!!!!!

My friend and I both have btyahoo broadband in control panel = network connections there is a tick in my btyahoo and says connected. underneath that it says local area connection a red cross is on this and disconnected mine all works well. But on my friends computer control panel network connections btyahoo appears as disconnected (when she is already connected) and the local area connection says connected why would this be? We cannot get her outlook express setup because of this. If we put in pop.btyahoo.com it trys to connect but fails as is connected to local area connection. Can anyone help solve our problem as what to do next.

Im not so hot at networking but the yahoo mail server is
mail.btyahoo.com
not pop. But you do select the POP3 option for the server type.
