I understand that the 10 per month charge is being removed from Sky Plus - does this mean that if I dump Sky completely and use my Sky Plus box as a freeview box - that it will continue to work as a video recorder ?

If you dump Sky they will de-activate your sky card and you will not be able to watch any channels (you need a Sky card even to watch "free" channels).

You can buy a FreeSat card from Sky for about 20 which will allow you to watch these "free" channels using your existing equipment.

OK If I get a "FREESAT" card from Sky - will I be able to record using the PVR ?
I think (but don't quote me on this!) that you can still pay the tenner a month for sky+ but not subscribe to any packages. You can then use the box as a freeview receiver AND take advantage of the + facilities. A call to Sky on 08702 404040 should give you the definative on this.

Seems a bit of a con as you can buy DVB boxes with twin tuners, 80Gb hard drive, 14 day tv planner and pause/rewind live tv for less than 100 (at Aldi). I just wish there were more 'good' channels on freeview!
You can dump sky and receive the free to air channels as we do that on one of our boxes.
i think you have to subscribe to one of the packages to get the free sky+.
Yeah I don't know about Sky+, but I dumped normal Sky and the card became a freesat card without paying 20.

I rang to ask to buy a freesat card, and they said you don't have to as you already have a card.
Is it me or is sky just really expensive...

with all the different ways we can entertain ourselves online now for free etc etc..

I just buy seasons of my favourite programs like sopranos etc and by the time I get through all of them it works our cheaper then subscribing to sky.

We should really be moving away from sky and into controling our viewing pleasures ourselves at much better prices
Yeah it is expensive, and I realised we were hardly watching any of the chargable channels.

You hardly notice the difference if you go to Freesat. There are free pop music channels, Film 4 and a few other movie channels with old films. You still get Skynews, and all the BBC and ITV. The only one I miss is Sky Sports News, but that is not worth 15 a month
i got sky when you had to have a big dish on the side of you gaff it was great my favourite was all the foriegn channels like wildlife eurosport, music and of course watching films like rambo in german, top entertainment! but now what is there... only what sky want you to watch no choice without paying i cancelled two years ago when they brought the "mix"packages in, i dont to pay to watch adverts on juice extractors at 3 in the morning! no do yourselves a favour dump sky till they bring down the prices its far too expensive

At the moment - I pay 43 per month for a whole load of drivel - so yes I do plan to cancel my subscription
Cancelling isn't that easy, as they put you through to the department for stopping customers leaving.

A nice lady will start offering discounts for you to stay.

I tried threatening a cancellation - I got "OK NO PROBLEM"
Plus I got an increase in subscription
So I guess that it is BYE BYE SKY
