A site tells me that my connection speed is 470.5kbps and underneath it says 57.7 K bytes/sex. Does that mean my connection is that of a 56k modem? or is the K of 56k denoting kbps, which means that my broadband is right and it is nearly 10 times as fast?
The 56 k refers to kilo bits per second. Since there are 8 bits in a byte then a 56 k modem will have a 7 kilo bytes per second BAUD rate. They should stick to bits and stop the confusion.
