Are there standard connections for record player components or is each manufacturer different?

DJ standard turntables all use a similar four wire spade type connection to link up the cartridge to the arm and headshell but each manufacturer has there own spec for styli fitting into the cartridge.

Try http://www.ortofon.com/ as this is the leading maker of styli in the world imho.

Sorry very remiss of me not to point out loads of other DJ's favourite stanton.... http://www.stantondj.com/alpha44/start.asp
They differ both mechanically and electrically. Some bolt on, some clip on. The electrical contacts, typically four pins, can connect via tiny jumper cables to the headshell contacts or may clip in if the interface s proprietary.
