Hi there again guys. My friend has just had an operation for cancer and has to now take 2 weeks recovery. Thing is, she is a Temp for a temping agency and her last placement ended on Wednesday. After the 2 weeks she is to have 6 months Chemo and then 3 months Radiotherapy - she doesnt mind working obviously but, while she's ill is worrying about her bills. Where can she get help? Ta x

She may be able to get advice from a social worker attached or known to her cancer care team, failing that, if you are in England, the local citizens' advice bureau could help. There are grants and loans that can be made available but these depend on her age and circumstances. If she can talk to her creditors and explain the situation then that could be helpful too, some organisations are willing to extend payment times or defer payments
Surely she will be entitled to Disability Living Allowance or Incapacity Benefit? She will also be entitled to help with Housing Benefit and Council Tax. My mum had breast cancer and I can tell you the chemo will absolutely knock your friend for six. Your friend is unlikely to feel well enough to work. Your friend should try talking to her local DWP department for advice on what she is entitled to.
Paul, get her to phone her local benefits agency and ask for an income maximisation assessment. Good luck.
