Not sure if this is the correct category but this has been bugging me...
Given that some people don't wash their hands after going to the loo (dirty so and sos) why is it that you have to pull the doors open on the way out but push them open on the way in.
Surely its more hygienic the otherway round as you don't have to handle a dirty handle.
Being the anal retentive I am I often look for a paper towel to dry my hands and after using it to open the door look for a bin outside or holding the door open with my foot toss it (the paper towel) into the bin inside. Yukky poo!
I assume you're talking about the outer door to the loos rather than the cubicle door? I always wash my hands but then when I leave, I wrap my sleeve, coat, handbag around my hand to pull the door. When I've been able to push the door, I've used my foot, knee, elbow - anything but my hand! By the state of some of the public loos, I hate to think what some people's houses are like - it's absolutely disgusting.
I suspect that the main reason they open inward is because if they opened outward there would be a lot of people walking into/getting a face full of loo door! You can't see what's happening outside when you're in there!
Can see the point about the hitting people with it but frosted glass would sort that problem out as you could see if somebody was coming up to it...suppose its down to money at the end of the day....
Plus you could always still hit somebody with the door who is coming out of the toilet.....
