puzzling problem!!

can anyone please help with this problem....i have a 5 year old philips dvd recorder , i record a programe to disc (rw+) on it and then play it on my new bush lcd tv (built in dvd player)in my bedroom,it works fine but when i put the disc back into the philips machine it says that the format is not recgognised and do i want to change back to 'philips' type ,the menu of the disc has also changed on screen,how can the dvd player in the bush tv change the format and menu when it has no re writeable or 'burning' facilities in it .
