My husband and I bought the house several years ago for 38,000.00 and were told when we bought that the building foundations were faulty ,and that you could get no morgage from the banks. If so what can we do ,so that we may be able to sell later on .
I suspect it would be very difficult to sell if it would not pass a survey, so buyer would not get a mortgage. I would however get a qualified surveyor or a builder to tell you what needs done. It is unlikely to be unrepairable and at least you would be able to tell prospective buyers what is wrong and how much it would cost to repair. Or you could just get it fixed yourselves!
There are several solutions to defective foundations each depending upon what the problem is - did the council not explain to you? If not, could you phone your local Building Control/Planning Office and enquire and post the answer here on Monday? Over the years you have lived there have you experienced problems arising directly from the defective foundations, if so, very briefly, what?
i know if it was me,i wouldnt have bought a house where i was told that 'the building foundations were faulty ,and that you could get no morgage from the banks' - the council are in the clear as legally they made the above statement prior to sale but as a tenant surely you couldve insisted on a repair either at their entire or partial expense ?
I have seen people advertise properties for sale as 'unmortgageable' perhaps in the case where they are for example at a high risk of flooding. Looks like you can get some people to buy anything but you have to be honest!
