2.4 seconds if he's a good enough poll vaulter.
If its longer than 3ft 2.5'', it could take up to 2 weeks......... Bummer........
I'm sure you meant cheques, paper bills of exchange for money. I've had biggies from reputable sources (other banks, Lottery company etc) clear in four bank working days. Personal account ones sometimes take an extra day, but no bank person I've asked has ever given me a satifactory explanation as to why it should even take four days.

When you pay the cheque in you can ask (for a fee, of course!) to "Express" it. This means that, provided the funds are available in the cheque writer's account, you get the money either next bank working day or the bank working day after. See, it can be done!

N.B. Bankers are robbers in striped pants!

I tried to 'express' a large cheque once and the bank said this was not possible??? You can a pay a fee to check the funds the account is being drawn off and whether there are sufficient funds to clear it but I think I am right in thinking you dont get the money working so you could say 5-7 days is the wait.
Mrs Pegasus is right. It is not possible to speed up the clearance of a cheque and the big 4 all quote 5 working days. The reason they give is that this is the time taken by the post or courier service to circulate the cheque between banks to verify signatures and confirm availability of funds.
