Mobile Phone Batteries

I have recently had to buy a new battery for my phone as my old one wasn't lasting more than a day. I was told by a friend that I should wait until my battery was nearly dead before recharging and not to keep charging when it is half full.

Apparently this will prolong the life of my new battery, is this true? Thanks.

I asked about this recently and was told that when mobile phones first came out, they needed an initial overnight charge, and should only be charged when the charge had completely run out, or else it would shorten the time the charge lasted for. They also should not have been left plugged in and charging after they were fully charged.

However, the new phones and batteries out now are more sophisticated and this is no longer the case. I checked this with a mobile phone manufacturer and my phone insurance too!

Thanks Chazza, that is a great help!
When you first get your new battery, keep it on charge for an hour or so after it says it's fully charged.

When using it, just charge it as and when you like. Once a day, once every few days, anything.

Once a month or so, let it fully discharge (empty) and then fully recharge again, leaving it for an hour or so after it says it's full.

Doing this latter thing isn't for the battery's health, but simply to keep the battery level indicator software correct. Not doing this can make the indicator thing it's more full than it really is, or more empty than it really is.
