I'm not too sure what to make of this, considering what this goverment has done to our troops, including puttin up their income tax, which includes those fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.

or are they just trying to get more votes out of it?.

Don't know how this is going to work!!

First of all, people go to a football match to errrm.... watch football, we've tried putting a recruitment stand at matches before and got nothing but abuse and no recruits

Second, there's the security to consider, can you imagine the carnage if just one suicide bomber infiltrated the crowds, and it would be damned near impossible to search everyone in a 50,000+ crowd.

I'm not saying we shouldn't have an Armed Forces day, far from it, but in my opinion, Brown and co are using the British publics affection for the troops to popularise (I'm not sure if that's a word, if not then I've just invented it) two unpopular wars. Have coming home parades by all means, but surely they can think of a better way of celebrating our troops magnificent efforts.

Totally agree John, taken at face value, it seems a good idea, but given this Goverments record with our troops, its another idea to win votes.

As you say, coming home parades would be much better, and bettter still, if the Goverment organised them, in co-operation with the Regiments who are 'coming home'

There's the real problem in my mind Lonnie, the words Government and organisation brings the words brewery and p1ss up to mind, as in couldn't organise one in the other. Look at the Iraq debacle, sending troops to fight with totally inadequate or non existent equipment.

yeah, I know, in my day, and probably yours as well, we got all the right equipment,
I never fought a conventional war as you did, always Terrorists, Aden, N.I. etc, but whats happening now, is nothing short of disgusting.
