I've never had one. I want a pay as you go deal but I don't know how you pay for use. I understand you go to a local shop and ask for a top up? What do do ask for exactly?

Some will come with a swipe card - go to the shop, hand your card over and say '�10 top up please'. Credit is applied to your phone automatically.
Some won't have a swipe card - go to the shop and say '�10 vodafone top-up voucher please'. Follow the instructions on the voucher.

I am with T-Mobile. If I dial '150', an automated recording will tell me how much credit I have left, and i can top up by following the simple instructions. I jad to register my debit card, but that's a one-off action - after that it's simple.

I top mine up by phone. It's free to call, I register my debit card number with them once, from then on it's dead fast and easy.
Buy a phone on ebay. Second hand. So so so cheap now. Soooooooooooooo cheap.
Like: a good phone with all the bells and whistles, delivered for under a tenner.
Get one that's unlocked to any network.
Never pay for a sim card. Various online service providers send them out free. Some shop asked me for a fiver for a blank Orange Sim card. Are you having a laugh?
