They cost about �4 per wash and they take 2hrs for one wash. Then the cooking pans need scrubbing separately as most of the debris is unmoveable by the DW.

Don't bother with one; it's painful on the back loading and unloading the thing. Only buy if you are offered a free Florida holiday.....as I did

depends on the dishwasher, and the cycle. Many modern dishwashers are ultra effcient, and the likes from Miele only require 10 to 13 litres of water per cycle, including wash, and two rinses. Energy consumption depends on the temperature, and whether you have heat drying on afterwards. The Miele dishwashers have an 'Energy Save' programmes which uses the hot water supply, and their dishwashers use a residual heat and fan drying system so are really effcient.

About 2 units a wash. Say 10 pence a unit. 20 pence a wash. AND you get somewhere to hide the dirty dishes !

I agree totally with dipee about 50 pence per wash and it uses far less water than doing them by hand also they get dried so no contaminated tee towels

20p per wash? Thats cheap but does that include Power consumption, Detergent and the amount of water it uses?

In my opinon dishwashers and patio heaters are right up there in wasteful appliances every invented.

I agree. In the time it takes for a cycle to finish, you could've done 10 lots by hand. I wash pans, etc., up as they're emptied, which leaves very little to see to by the time the meal's finished.

Beswad, Today's dishwashers are extremely efficient, and use less water than washing the same load by hand. The Miele dishwashers can utilise a hot water supply, so they hardly use any elecy at all.
So i cant see how you can place a dishwasher under 'wasteful appliances' bet you have a tumble drier though, which is far more wasteful
It sounds like your'e boring if you'd actually stand at a sink and do the washing up.

thank you once again this all started off becouse when i get up in the morning (when not at work) and turn the pc on and leave it on all day i was trying to justify it by comparing it to the dishwasher when there is only 3 of us in the hous
