I have been advised that the pressure relief pipe from my boiler does not comply with current regulations as it terminates above a window.

Can anyone confirm this please ?

Thank you

This is correct because in the event of a fault, hot water at above 60 degrees C is liable to squirt from the pipe. I don't believe the Regs that introduced rules for closed, pressurised systems have ever allowed this.
It is supposed to outflow close to the ground.

Thanks

I was advised that when it was installed 3 years ago it would have been OK but the regulations changed this year.
I looked at Building Regulations 2000 Part G, which came into effect in 2001, 8 years ago. Regs may predate that.

Par 3.9 talks about discharge pipes.
"The discharge pipe should terminate in a safe place where there is no risk to persons in the vicinity of the discharge."
In addition it talks about low level discharges up to 100mm off the ground being acceptable provided that where children play a wire cage or guard is fitted. A high-level discharge into a metal hopper/downpipe is acceptable.
But not what you've got - info you've been given is tripe.
the pipe can terminate at a high level providing that it is not above a window or doorway and the installer should bend the pipe towards the wall so any discharge runs safely down the wall.

Thanks very much for your responses. The pipe is bent into the wall but is above a window, so I guess if I move it across from above the window and have it bent into the wall still at high level it should be Ok
If Gucciman says so (he's a plumber - I'm not). But I don't see anything in the Regs to say you can do it this way. Still got hot water flooding down the wall.
It dosen`t make any difference terminating above a window or door opening ,so long as the pipe is pointing back to the wall. I work for BG and come across this every day.
