Does it need servicing? Might be fluff n stuff.
Once I had a pilot light under the gas fire that went out if a draught blew through the room, it was apparently the wrong sort of pilot light for the purpose ie it was meant for an industrial boiler!

Lil O'lady thank you for the answer for pilot light
we have done that and now hope it stays in but we did clean it last night but it was out this morning so its been cleaned again thank you pat
Possible thermocouple....
why don't you tight wads just call out a heating engineer !

if the pilot will light but then goes out after a while then its probably not the thermocouple, usually if its the thermocouple the pilot will not establish at all.

the problem is usually due to either the pilot being partially blocked so the flame is too small, or the pilot is not getting enough air so it is yellow rather than blue and therefore not hot enough to keep the thermcouple energised or when the main burner comes on it is lifting the pilot away from the thermocouple.

when did you last have your fire serviced?

in any case can i say to all the answerbank users, everyone panics about carbon monoxide from their boilers after what happened to the 2 young children in greece, but it is gas fires that are the real danger, modern boilers are room sealed so the fumes can only go outside, fires have a burner rght in your living room, left unserviced they have the potential to fill your room with deadly carbon monoxide in minutes. we regulary go to houses where they have never had their fires serviced and they are actually proud of the fact. one prat we went to, his chimney breast and ceiling were black with carbon, the idiot only called us in because the fire would no longer light it was so choked with soot.
have your fires serviced every 12 months, we only charge 40 for a service on a fire or boiler and it may just save your life.
