gas fires

I have a 'Decorative' Coal effect gas fire which will stay on for an hour or so then automatically switch off. Would this be a faulty thermocoupler?

That happens to ours and it is caused by air bubbles in the gas flow

If your Thermocouple breaks, it won't switch on at all.

Can I ask what brand the fire is?

Its not fixed, it keeps going out, we just turn it off  and back on again

is it one with false coal pieces?if so take them out -and if they sit on sand take that out also-then put the end of your hoover hose over  the gas jet for a minute and your problem with the fire going out should be solved-mine was -good luck

firstly check the age of the appliance

secondly make sure you have a permanent vent

your pilot may have an oxygen depliting device which may come into action

also check your flue for clearance of any obstruction

annd please do not use the fire and have it checked by a good gas engineer

Oi Paul,

Why not offer a practical solution?  The corgi website won't offer any solutions other than to spend a fortune on a gas engineer.  The question originally was enquiring as to what the fault was.  Not how it could be fixed.

Thanks all, have done the sensible (if not the cheapest) thing and got a Gas engineer coming tomorrow!

If he tells me what the problem was I'll post it here!.
