electric issue

we are under reno and the dedicated electric wire for the dishwasher is not yet hooked up. i moved it out of the way of something and it popped and sparked - very nervous about it - what would cause this?

Somebody has left an uninsulated live cable under the machine and the case of the machine brushed against it when you moved it.
Very unlikely to have done any damage to the machine itself, and probably just tripped the MCB or blown the fuse for that circuit.
Turn all the power off, fish the cable out, insulate the three wires properly, check the fuses/MCBs and turn on again.
Identify the electrician responsible and flog appropriately using a minimum of 15 lashes.
